Root Canal Therapy:
Root canal therapy is a treatment designed to save a tooth that has been severely damaged or infected. By understanding the process, you can alleviate any concerns you may have about this treatment.
Root Canal Therapy Procedure
A root canal procedure is usually required when the pulp of the tooth, which contains nerves and blood vessels, becomes overly inflamed or infected. This can be due to a variety of reasons, including deep decay, deep fillings, cracks, or trauma.
Common symptoms of pulp damage include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discoloration of the tooth, or swelling and tenderness in the nearby gums. However, sometimes there are no symptoms.
Root canal treatment begins with a small hole made on the top of the tooth. All canals are located, fully disinfected, and then filled. In certain cases, medication needs to be put inside the tooth to aid in disinfection and you will have to return for another visit to complete the treatment.
